A retrograde is an apparent reversal in a planet’s motion as seen from Earth. In practice, retrograde periods correlate with review rather than catastrophe: revisiting old work, reopening conversations, finding the error in something already signed.
Mercury takes most of the blame because it is the fastest and most frequently retrograde. Somewhere along the way it became a general-purpose explanation for lost keys and bad emails, which is entertaining and mostly harmless until people start delaying real decisions.
The transit only becomes personally significant when it activates something specific in your chart — a retrograde crossing a sensitive point matters much more than the same retrograde in the abstract.
A reasonable use: schedule reviews, audits and revisions into those windows if you can, and stop attributing every inconvenience to a planet.
